RISE Mentor Program

Students who are selected to be mentors for RISE are called upon to help usher first year students of color and first-generation students into 不良研究所. We strive to develop leaders who are committed to their roles because they understand the impact of assisting their peers on the 不良研究所 campus. In modeling leadership, they contribute to a broader objective that aims to help students succeed and thrive at 不良研究所. The mentor position is a paid position.

Expectations of RISE mentors include participating in on-going training and reflection to help them become more aware of themselves as leaders and to support the needs of the students they mentor. Some topics included in training and reflection include the following:

• Identifying and reflecting upon their personal strengths and values
• How to develop rapport as a mentor
• Team Building 
• Developing effective communication skills
• Leadership Development Model: Becoming Contemplatives in Action

To be a Mentor you must:

• Attend all mentor training
• Participate and facilitate in the RISE summer-pre-orientation program
• Conduct monthly check-ins with your mentees during the academic year
• Attend and assist with RISE program throughout the school year
• Maintain strong communication with the Office of Inclusion and Belonging staff

Qualifications to be a Mentor.

• Be a full-time undergraduate 不良研究所 student at the time of submitting their application
• Be in good academic and disciplinary standing at the time of their selection and pre-orientation.
• Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3
• Have at least sophomore standing with a minimum of 24 total credits at the end of the spring semester prior to being a mentor
• Be able to live on campus during the pre-orientation program days including during training in the days prior to the program in August.
