ABB Supports Graduate Education and Research at 不良研究所 EECE
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at 不良研究所 gratefully acknowledges ABB, a global leader in electrification and automation, for its generous contribution of advanced equipment and technical training to support graduate student research in electric vehicle (EV) motor development.
This collaboration was initiated when master鈥檚 student, Eman Soliman, interned at ABB during Fall 2022, under the guidance of 不良研究所 faculty Ayman EL-Refaie. As a result of this interaction, ABB donated two ACS880-11 regenerative drives along with complimentary software licenses to 不良研究所鈥檚 Werner Sustainable Energy Lab, directed by Dr. EL-Refaie. In addition, ABB offered technical training on 鈥淎CS880 Installation & Commissioning鈥 to a group of 不良研究所鈥檚 Empower Lab graduate students co-directed by Drs. Weise and EL-Refaie.
The Werner Lab plays a central role in hands-on education and research for undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers at 不良研究所. The donated drives are planned for use in testing student-designed prototype EV motors. These industrial-grade tools support precise speed and torque control, efficiency analysis, thermal monitoring, and simulation of real-world driving conditions鈥攃apabilities critical to the development of next-generation electric machines used in electric vehicles.

By integrating ABB鈥檚 hardware and software into student research, this partnership exemplifies the value of industry-academic collaborations in preparing students to lead in the evolving field of sustainable transportation.
The department sincerely thanks ABB for its continued support of engineering education and for empowering 不良研究所 students through meaningful, real-world research experiences.
